Patent Title: Method for synthesizing crosslinked cyclodextrin polymer and removal of cholesterol with the polymer
Publication date: 1998
Publication number: JP10195108

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material which has improved adsorptivity for a substrate and can adsorptively remove cholesterol by crosslinking cyclodextrin in the presence of a template molecule and removing the template molecule from the crosslinked cyclodextrin. SOLUTION: An aqueous solution containing alpha -, beta -, gamma - or delta -cyclodextrin is mixed with a solution prepared by dissolving a template molecule in an organic solvent being inert to isocyanato groups and being capable of dissolving a crosslinking agent to obtain a dextrin/temperate molecule clathrate complex. This complex is reacted with a crosslinking agent to crosslink the cyclodextrin and washed with an organic solvent such as acetone, tetrahydrofuran or 1,4- dioxane to remove the template molecule and to obtain a crosslinked cyclodextrin polymer. This polymer is added to a solution containing cholesterol under agitation to selectively adsorb cholesterol. The polymer containing the adsorbed cholesterol is regenerated by treatment with a good solvent for cholesterol.
