Abstract: A method of applying a coating of polymeric material to a surface of a substrate comprises the steps of contacting the surface to be coated with a suitable quantity of a solution of one or more polymerisable species and causing the polymerisable species to undergo polymerisation, characterised in that, during polymerisation, the solution and polymeric material formed therefrom are constrained by a mould placed against the surface of the substrate and cooperating therewith to define a chamber. The substrate may be a biosensor transducer.
